Baby FC on BBC Radio 5 Live.

During a recent Victoria Derbyshire show on BBC Radio 5 Live Baby FC were invited to participate in the debate surrounding ‘women in football’.  Luton Town Manager Mike Newell suggested that his team’s recent defeat to QPR was in part due to poor decisions by the Assistant Referee who was a woman.  He was quoted as saying  “she should not be here. I know that sounds sexist but I am sexist.  We have a problem with political correctness and bringing women into the game is not the way to improve refereeing".

Rosemary Inskipp, from Baby FC was invited to comment.  She says

“We need to make football more inclusive to all - not just men and women, but children as well.  Mike Newell's comments are not helpful for the game, particularly at a time when clubs are trying to get more and more people involved in the game.

Clubs complain about falling ticket sales. To address this they need to make it attractive to a wider audience – infants, children, women and men. Let's rise above such comments and embrace all that is positive in the game and create a game that we can all enjoy.

Today’s modern football club has junior teams and girls teams working alongside the senior first teams – be they non-league clubs or those in the Premiership.  Baby FC wants Clubs to extend this and to embrace an even younger audience who can get excited and inspired by the game and get involved in it – on and off the pitch.”
